Sheriff's Race

There is a lot going on in local sheriff’s races. In Carter County, incumbent Chris Mathes lost the primary election on May 6. He has now decided to run as a write-in candidate. Mathes originally said that he would not run as a write-in, but he has now changed his mind due to a large amount of support from the public for him to do so. Independent candidate, James Parrish, announced Friday evening that he would no longer be running. He is supporting Republican nominee Dexter Lunceford. In Washington County, their primary has finally been decided through a recount. Incumbent Sheriff Ed Graybeal won by a narrow 12 votes. His challenger, Craig Ford, has yet to announce his next step.
