About Us

WKID 6 began producing news programs on July 1, 2006. It started out on the VHS format in black and white. The station moved to a studio with color broadcasting in September. Then, we began to produce weekly programs on Fridays in 2007. Those programs continued when the station moved from analog to digital in 2008 and eventually to email programs that summer. WKID 6's companion website was launched on June 7, 2008, providing up-to-date information between newscasts. A mobile edition of the site was eventually introduced in 2010. WKID 6 gained recognition in February of that year after WCYB-TV's Jim Conrad visited our station to make a Region Focus story on our operations. In 2010, WKID 6 began airing stories about the effect of Christ in people's lives. The most notable story helped to raise money to provide weekend food for children at the former Range Elementary School. 2012 brought big changes to our website. The desktop and mobile versions were integrated, and all of our news stories were placed in an archive on the website. WKID made a major upgrade in the summer of 2014 when the station began broadcasting in full 1080p High Definition. WKID 6 concluded on August 9, 2014 with a special program celebrating our eight year history. From mission trips to food banks to Vacation Bible Schools, WKID 6 has spread the Good News through our coverage of Christian events and organizations in our newscasts and on our website.
